ELVD conservation working

To the Editor:
Emerald Lake Village District Residents.
The Board of Commissioners would like to thank you all for conserving water this year. Although there have been water tankers seen in the Patten Hill Road area, we have not had to truck water in for our wells. The Trucks were called in to fill local pools. Although we are getting a few calls about folks watering their lawns at night and a few still washing their vehicles, we have done well so far and we would like to thank everyone.
On Tuesday, July 29 through July 31, we will be doing a pump test on well # 11 so that we can put the well on line before August 1, 2008 to meet the Dept. of Environmental Services’ dead line. We will be shutting down well # 6 and # 11 so we can do this test. Even though the tank is full, we will need everyone’s help to conserve. If the pump test has to be shut down because of low water problems, we will not be able to complete the pump test and we will have to start all over again the next week. In the past month since June 14, we have gotten 17.6 inches of rain. So please hang in there so we can get this test done right the first time to the State’s satisfaction. During the pump test, we will be putting the water back into the tank.
We have had three water line breaks and they are all fixed. Water System Operators have really worked hard at keeping us in water so we would also like to thank them for their hard work. We did loose 30000 gallons on a bad break on Winter Road, but thanks to the folks who called it in, we were able to shut off the line so we did not lose more water. We are asking everyone to help with no lawn watering or car washing. Even though we are all paying $500.00 a year for water (which figures out to be 1.36 per day) we still need to protect our water source.
On one last note, we would like to remind everyone to keep their speed down when driving in our district. We are getting way too many calls about speeding around the lake. Whether it is a car or a 4 wheeler the speed limit out here is 15 miles per hour. All of our children are out and about. We do not want anyone to get hurt because traffic is too fast. It could be one of yours. So please, let’s police ourselves without having to have the police our here for a tragedy.
